CF PUD Trash Service Update June 8

WCA, CFPUD’s current trash contractor, sent several crews out on Sunday. However, they did not complete the entire area because they filled all of the trucks that they sent out. Consequently some areas had only the bins emptied (yard waste left behind), and some areas were not serviced at all. WCA informed us this morning that they will service our area tomorrow, but will only pickup household trash at the curb (no yard waste).

The PUD Board has taken emergency action to provide a “clean up the trash at the curb”” service this afternoon. Texas Pride Disposal will send out crews to service the areas that were not serviced yesterday. Texas Pride will be our contractor going forward after a contract is signed and a transition is completed. It usually takes months to make a transition, but they are responding on a few hours notice and have taken extraordinary action in order to help us with our current situation.

We thank Texas Pride Disposal and appreciate everyone’s patience

CFPUD WCA Trash Service – Sunday June 7

WCA, CFPUD’s contractor for trash service, informed us earlier this week that several of their drivers are on COVID-19 quarantine. They are implementing several temporary changes to our trash service. They were unable to provide service on Tuesday, and then postponed Friday’s service to Saturday. Late Thursday they postponed it again to Sunday. Their current plan is as follows:

  1. Trash pickup for this week will be on Sunday, June 7 (no service this Friday or Saturday). This will be limited to curbside only (no backdoor service), and for only household trash and yard waste. There will be no recycle or bulk (large items) pickup.
  2. WCA will resume a Tuesday and Friday schedule next week (June 9), but will be limited to curbside pickup for only household trash and yard waste. (No backdoor).
  3. Recycle and bulk pickup and backdoor service are tentatively scheduled to resume in mid June.

Additional details, including the notice from WCA, can be found on the Cypress Forest PUD website: cyforestpud.com.

We are working closely with our current contractor to get through this situation, and are taking additional action to provide consistent quality service on an ongoing basis. The district’s contract for trash collection is up for renewal.  After reviewing several proposals, we are proceeding to award the new contract to Texas Pride Disposal. Pending final contract review and approval, the conversion should take place in late July. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience.

CFPUD WCA Trash Service – Temporary Changes

CFPUD received an alert from our contractor WCA on March 31. On March 30, WCA learned that one of their drivers had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The driver did not serve the CFPUD community – he was employed at a different yard. However for precautionary purposes, 4 other drivers plus helpers who have been in close contact with this driver have been quarantined. In their absence, remaining crew members will need to cover larger areas.

Consequently, WCA is making some temporary changes to their service starting April 3:

  1. There will be no recycle pickup.
  2. Back door service is suspended – all trash must be at the curb.
  3. There are no changes or limits to yard and bulk waste.

For further information go to the CFPUD website https://www.cyforestpud.com/

Let us hope that WCA’s employees are healthy and can soon return to normal operations.

Update from WCA Waste Regarding Garbage and Recycling Collection in Response to COVID-19

At WCA, our highest priority continues to be the health and well-being of our customers and staff during an evolving situation. Last night, we learned that one of our drivers has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.  As a precaution, the helpers and other drivers who have been in close contact with this driver have been quarantined.

How Will This Affect Your Service?

WCA provides an essential service for the Houston Metroplex and our mission is to provide the best service possible to our communities. For now, our priority will shift to collect the putrescible waste first.  This is the material that begins to breakdown and decompose first in the Houston heat.

This means that residents need to separate their putrescible waste from their bulk waste to ensure proper and timely collection.  A two-bag maximum for bulk, per home, will be picked on your scheduled service day.  WCA/VF Waste Services will not be collecting carpet or construction materials as regular collection related to this event.

Recycle Services:

Effective Tuesday, March 31, 2020 – Until Further Notice

  • We are suspending recycle service for the greater Houston area.

Please Note: Suspended services due to this event will not be made up or pushed to another service day.

WCA/VF Waste services made these decisions due to the severity of the conditions, and safety concerns to our community and the WCA family.  We thank you for your partnership and for your patience and continued trust in WCA/VF Waste Services.

Please take care and be safe throughout the remainder of this event.

Sincerely,

WCA/VF Waste Services Municipal Department
